LaVar Ball is now charging outlets $3,500 to film LaMelo's high school games

LaMelo Ball’s high school team, SPIRE Institute (Ohio), will take part in the “Big Baller Beatdown” in Kentucky this weekend. But video coverage of the tournament will come at a steep price for outlets.

Basketball writer Adam Zagoria tweeted an email from tournament organizers, revealing that those wishing to film any of the SPIRE games would have to pay $3,500 for a “Big Baller Brand media credential.” LaVar’s Big Baller Brand would allow outlets to film the other games for free, restricting the $3,500 charge just for his son’s games.

The email also noted several conditions of filming, which included using the organizers’ logos and displaying the event schedule on social media.

Zagoria reported that several outlets had already agreed to pay the fee.

SPIRE was initially slated to participate in the HoopHall Classic but was replaced amid controversy over a Ball family “consultant” seeking a $10,000 appearance fee for LaMelo to participate.

The 17-year-old Ball is considered a five-star talent, but circumstances such as this (and many others) have almost assuredly forfeited his NCAA eligibility.
