Prince Royce’s fitness secret is no secret: he loves sports! After having a “great time” running the Miami Half Marathon over the weekend, Royce announced on Monday morning (Jan. 28) that he’s the team owner in a brand new football league, Billboard can exclusively reveal.
The Fan Controlled Football League (FCFL) — the first professional sports league where fans are in charge, from designing the logos to calling plays in real-time — announced on Monday that the bachata crooner has become the first music star to own a team. Royce will also be serving as celebrity “Fan Captain” for his franchise, working alongside his squad’s fans to create the brand, voice, and personality of his respective team.
“I’m a football fan and have always dreamt of owning a sports team,” Royce said in a statement. “The fact that the FCFL combines sports with tech and gaming makes it the perfect league for me. I love everything about it, and it’s awesome that fans can really participate and be part of the game in a way they have never experienced before.”

In addition to Royce, the FCFL previously named NFL Super Bowl champions Marshawn Lynch and Richard Sherman as team owners, with more team owners and fan captains to be announced in the coming weeks.
FCFL Co-Founder and CEO, Sohrob Farudi added: “Prince Royce is exactly the type of owner we are looking for in the FCFL. He is not only a megastar with a hugely engaged digital fan base, he’s also a passionate football fan and gamer. I’m excited to see how he and his fans shape his franchise over the coming months.”
The inaugural FCFL season kicks off in June 2019 with all eight teams based in a single location. FCFL fans will join a team led by their favorite team owner.
